- private posts always go to your followers. So if you have a private-marked racconvo your followers can read half of it
- no limits on who can dm you except for blocking
- shares user blocks with other instances, which may then post them publically for harassment
- relying entirely on manual moderation, although this is more relevant to instances as a whole. There isn't a framework for automated moderation. At most you can import moderation lists, one at a time, manually updated.

@yassie_j an implementation I would honestly agree with on the side of mastodon if it only showed quote posts if the post tags the author of the quoted post. Some fedi software does default to tagging the author. And if you are going as far as needing permission to quote post, a better first step would be to allow replies to be limited

So quote posts have been just that, really. Specially marked up post links that fedi software could easily turn into rich post embeds.
What people do with them is fundamentally a moderation issue, that can be replicated fully by letting users link to posts.
However having a Different Special quote post method is yet another piece of evidence that mastodon has no interest in federating in a useful manner with the broader fediverse — only mastodon itself.
I should add that linking to posts also circumvents any moderation tools specific to quote posts. No limits on how posts can be linked have been added by mastodon past privating the post, which would also affect quote posts in the same way
