don't get me wrong, I'm always happy to see more projects move away from github or at least consider it, but I still have to ask who the fuck
- isn't a business customer
- self-hosts an actions runner but not their own forge
- uses it with a private repository
- needs more than 33h of monthly CI

@halva I don't disagree and it's not cheap at all (0.002$/minute works out to 86.4$ in 30 days if you're running it 24/7, likely stacks if you're running parallel jobs)
but also again it's under such weirdly specific conditions that it's unclear to me who this actually affects and whether they should be using github at all
if the repository is private, github's network effect isn't even in the picture and you can just run your own forgejo instead, especially if you already have the infra to self-host actions runners

@charlotte not really trying to defend gh here, rather just puzzled why you'd use a self-hosted runner with a hosted private repo instead of running your own forge

@novenary all you need is a system that can run docker. doesn’t need any change to network settings, domains, certs, ssh, what have you. can run behind a trillion layers of nat. only needs to run while code needs to build too

@gabboman @charlotte in that case imo actions were a trap right from the start, at least in my case it has made me start several new projects on github and stalled my migration to codeberg because it's really hard to say no to free shit
