i find it funny when train carriage numbers aren’t raccontiguous or even starting at 1, i got a seat reservation in raccarriage 366 which implies that the train is at least 8.7km long

And Rust makes it very easy to do unsound things with zero warnings in unsafe. And you actually need unsafe for many things, including many practical data structures.
at the very least you only need to implement the data structure correctly once and don’t need to deal with the awkwardness of shipping library dependencies and/or keeping some vendored code up to date

@flesh every single http request and response contains a timestamp in the form of Sat, 11 Jul 2026 14:12:10 GMT. this is required per the HTTP spec and virtually all clients and servers send this.
you need a working implementation of the gregorian calendar in order to calculate the week day in it. There is also no reason to have it there. not even for a human reader who could just look at a wall calendar to figure that info out. in effect it is read by a machine however who has genuinely no use for this data
this is, from what i can tell, still the case with http/2 and h3 for some bizarre reason. this overly complex way of encoding timestamps is also part of other, more useful, headers.
