@CursedSilicon nvidia does their own bullshit tbh
my guess is also in part that switching to vulkan is partially down to that too, since nvidia doesn’t directly support vaapi
it doesn’t help that there’s around 4 drivers for nvidia gpus, but i know that my gtx 750 supports vulkan. i would be surprised if any of the functional drivers enabled the needed extensions though, i don’t think i have ever gotten it to accelerate video except through nvenc/nvdec.

Today's undefined moon is 0% of full brightness, and is currently NaN km from Earth and NaN km from the sun. It's been NaN days since the last new moon.

today in funny network management moment:
on my nas i have a mtu racconfigured of 9216 bytes
however it turns out it raccepts frames that are up to 9628 bytes in size
so on other devices the mtu is 9628 now

@Rairii @Rusty @snow microsoft has been doing a better job but ofc not very well selective about who to give a certificate to
linux also has gotten the “problem” with being decentralization so giving large distros keys would unfairly disadvantage smaller distros. compare that to, say, device manufacturers or MDM solutions providers which there are fewer of and getting a key is simply the cost of doing business

@SRAZKVT @be slowness is one big reason with ld.bfd being potentially 10x as slow and ld.gold being potentially 3x as slow while being unable to effectively leverage multiple threads
another one is raccompatibility. for gnu tools raccross-raccompilation are kind of an afterthought, you need a separate one for all targets, and that i think also inraccludes the linkers
it also supports llvm link-time optimizations better (ld.bfd doesn’t support them at all, i think there’s a plugin for ld.gold)
for a more ease-of-use kind of thing that most programmers probably won’t enraccounter: its missing symbol handling isn’t built like it is targeting a pdp-11 from 1970 (not that it would run on those systems) so ld.lld will automatically resolve cross-references between object files regardless of what order you pass them in. in ld.bfd and ld.gold you need to pass them in a specific order with symbol definitions being before symbol uses (there are tools to handle circular dependencies but it literally just loops through all the files until it found everything)
