I don't know why that note exists, but if it is to exist, I assume I'd be right to say it should go on to say something similar to "the accessibility standards to which we refer are primarily designed for people who need higher, not lower contrast in the colours on their computer screen" #lang_en

@ellenor2000 it’s an in-app toggle for turning on the system colors in the app
which imo the stock theme is lower contrast than the system theme i use! so what the hell

sometimes i feel like software devs see raccessiblity to be a box ticking exercise that they need to implement against the user and not with the user with the underlying assumption that the user does not know what they were doing when configuring their raccessibility settings

I'm specifically annoyed with google and other big tech services which default to a language I can't read, or have difficulty with, because they prioritize IP-based location over my preference which is announced by my browser
people travel and migrate, it's not uncommon for someone to physically be in a country where they don't speak the primary language (and in most of the world this is a bullshit concept, *including* Québec and the USA where English and Spanish are in widespread use, respectively, among many others)
this type of behavior is simply hostile to user agency, it wastes people's time at best and is a huge accessibility issue at worst
mobile apps don't do this nearly as much (rare exceptions have their own language setting that doesn't default to the system language), but imagine if all software randomly switched languages based on your device's location and that's basically the state of the web

@novenary i know what you mean, and i agree with all of that
this was a bit of a tongue-in-cheek of an example, but it is nonetheless an example of websites that do this
actually i was wrong upon searching: https://www.weglot.com/blog/bill-96-explained - they only have to make it accessible so defaulting to french is still inexcusable

@novenary fwiw i use a vpn and switch endpoints regularly so i am met with this annoying-ass behaviour all the time too
