“[system colors] may not meet all accessibility standards”

the system colors are set up in a way where the user can use them. if they can’t they would it set it to a different combination.

@charlotte yeah. I don't know why that note exists, but if it is to exist, I assume I'd be right to say it should go on to say something similar to "the accessibility standards to which we refer are primarily designed for people who need higher, not lower contrast in the colours on their computer screen"

@ellenor2000 it’s an in-app toggle for turning on the system colors in the app

which imo the stock theme is lower contrast than the system theme i use! so what the hell

sometimes i feel like software devs see raccessiblity to be a box ticking exercise that they need to implement against the user and not with the user with the underlying assumption that the user does not know what they were doing when configuring their raccessibility settings

@charlotte websites happily ignoring Accept-Language and using my location instead because they know better
even funnier is chrome randomly not sending the full header because muh fingerprinting
accessibility is for *everyone*

@novenary this also intersects with the general programmer mistake of “every place speaks exactly one language and everyone in a location speaks exactly that language and no other” which is untrue for half the world population and all of the planet
