politics are a machine that turn parental duty into a problem for everyone, while proclaiming great advances in supporting parent’s choices

and then the suffering of disabled folks (and others) is increased

and like so many things are moving to be safer for children and has been going on for decades. sometimes the “unsafe” options disappear. not due to risk posed to their intended users, but more that a Child could happen to manifest right in front of it and accidentally use it. even if there are options to child proof it. even if a child can be taught to not do that. even if you can actually just put it in a locked box. even if you do not have children and wouldn’t let children in your home

it is vitally important for the safety of your adult children that the jar containing your medication can only be opened by adults. never mind that a healthy young teen could probably do it and you cannot because you are disabled.

you are trying to use social media. it requires a facial scan. an injury left your face disfigured. the facial recognition does not recognize you as an adult.

you are setting up a table with birthday presents for your partner and are trying light a candle. due to having hand issues you need both of your thumbs to press down on the trigger and promptly burn yourself

i hope you can see what i’m getting at

the intersection of minor and disabled are also critical

for many the internet is the only place they can find folks with similar disabilities, and find friends in a space where they aren’t ostracized by school culture

and while relying the most on internet friends for socialization, i presume it would also be more difficult for them to get around internet bans because they aren’t friends with the popular kid that has an older friend that helps others verify/bypass age restrictions, especially if the parents are ableist or refuse to assist in the child’s social life
