Unwisely ended up on a Reddit thread about "why do people hate on wire nuts so much" and it was absolutely full of comments like "they're fine if you install them properly, the haters are wrong" and then two sentences later in the same comment describing how a lot of people do not install them correctly...

This is just the same shit as with C programmers but for electrical, isn't it

And I'm just left wondering here when's the last time they looked at comparative house fire statistics between countries (about 10x more per capita for both fires and deaths than in NL, for example)

@joepie91 @clarfonthey yeah my guess would be, in order, lower electrical safety standards, combustible build materials, and a mildly higher prevalence of intentional indoor flamen (gas heaters, stoves, fireplaces)

@charlotte @clarfonthey I suspect that questionable fire response also plays a significant role in how severe things end up being. I've seen some videos of rural firefighter response in the US and hoo boy
