Browsing my box of diodes to find a replacement for the 5408 that died, I found this relic. Is that a diode made… by the BBC?!

Edit: No. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown,_Boveri_%26_Cie - thanks @WooShell & @charlotte + others

@ret no but I bet it was OEM to one of their sets

The same way the Nintendo 64 CPU was made by Toshiba I think, but has Nintendo branding on the chip package

@jhwgh1968 I’ve seen that with ICs plenty but never on boring discrete parts like diodes.

@ret when your order volume is in the millions, you can dictate the spec, no matter what it is

Heck, maybe they did it for something so simple as binning requirements. They wanted the top 5-10% or wev so their design could rely on a narrower parameter range, and the IC maker didn't want to get them lost with the others

@ret do you know it's standard or Schottke? That might be a clue to what the parameter might have been, particularly the latter

@charlotte @ret oh well, it was an amusing thought while it lasted
