domino effect, the recent doxxing from r/rust
Show content

small domino: linus torvalds making real name and email address an immutable part of a git commit
large domino: r/rust users doxxing a maybe-trans maybe-plural open source dev

@charlotte adjacent annoyance I've had with rust and others is if you want to publish to crates.io you have to dox yourself in cargo.toml too

@xarvos @charlotte sure but same as git, if you don't have to foresight to use one and then later you want to shed that identity you're screwed because your personal details are out there permanently
if your cargo.toml is in git then you have to rewrite history to fully redact it and that only applies to your own upstream copy
(incidentally this is exactly what happened here, the maintainer of that repo moved it to sourcehut and rewrote history to update authorship at the same time)
