I just wanted to clean up my Steam wishlist. Turns out several games have just vanished from the Steam store due to them having no age rating.
Uh, thanks, Germany.

If you're a dev and you've missed this, please fill out the missing information, otherwise your game won't even display for people in Germany. And yes, this counts for games released in the past, too.

@Radgryd This is particularly devastating for classic games.
I bought Children of the Nile on Steam a few years ago, a childhood favorite of mine that I couldn't play on my old PC due to bugs.
On Steam, I was finally able to enjoy the game the way it was supposed to be enjoyed, but since they provided no age rating, the game is now gone from the German Steam page. 😔 (And since nobody has heard anything from the devs, Tilted Mill, for several years, it will probably stay that way.)

@MaddyWaves I ran into a similar issue when I tried to contact the devs of Call Me Under (visual novel). Their website seems to be offline, unreachable or some certificate ran out. I'm not on X anymore and I won't use my account on there either. The only way I saw to contact them was to comment underneath one of their games on itch. Who knows if, and when they see them. Last few replies to other people seem to be from 10 months ago. So, for the time being, I won't be able to purchase or even *look* at their store pages.

@Radgryd that is due to steam’s dogshit handling of a law that has remained unchanged for years

really they should have marked games with no age rating as 18+

@charlotte At least that! Didn't even think of that, would've been a good temporary solution..

@Radgryd the new system likely still isn’t compliant so i wouldn’t be surprised if steam hostilely unlisted even more games in the future

@Radgryd [the law basically states that in order to sell video games to minors in germany, they need to be rated by the USK. the steam self-survey is, not that. also it doesn’t apply to games that are only sold to adults, hence an 18+ age barrier would be reasonable]

@charlotte I also feel it hurts <18 games more, because games that are rated mature usually already have a rating..

@Radgryd @charlotte It's a really weird business decision for a store to prefer not getting a sale over just setting a default rating value.
