kinda don’t understand the point of soft blocking, especially on social media where everything is Public anyways?

if you don’t want them to see your posts without workarounds, try: regular blocking

and if you are okay with them seeing your posts without workarounds and even interacting with them, why are you soft blocking?

@charlotte on old!twitter it was mostly to remove a follow to give someone a little timeout when they were getting a bit too personal with your posts

@charlotte both. some do it in order to provoke a reaction, others do it to avoid a reaction

@charlotte softblocking implements the "unfollow them and force them to unfollow you without stopping them seeing what you write" semantic

@ellenor2000 i am also not sure how that is better than either unfollowing them or blocking them outright

@ellenor2000 context here is bluesky where blocking doesn’t force an unfollow so soft blocking does nothing

………posts are all public and follows are not subject to approval gating, there is nothing to be gained i’d argue?

@charlotte Bluesky is a cesspit. I only use it under a fake name that is recycled from an ARG I was trying to make.

@charlotte@akko.chir.rs

I think soft block in main bluesky is private data on the appview, but unsure right now
