Hopefully cold take, ALPR, Flock, misunderstanding
Show content

Automatic License Plate Readers and Flock cameras (and stuff like it) being conflated annoys me.

I'm from the UK and learned to drive in Australia, speed cameras and speed traps (distance between two points then averaging speed to issue a ticket) using ALPR are fine, tracking people through a centralised system as Flock and its siblings do, sucks, and is greater than just ALPR

was watching RegularCars on Flock Cameras are Tracking You and Getting It Wrong.

I know I'm late to the party on this but the conflation I noticed in the video bothered me enough to make a post, I'm fairly sure they know ALPR and Flock aren't the same.

tangent, I'm not sure why, generally, americans seem so against speed cameras.. they can and do make things safer when expected, mobile speed cameras can fuck people up though

@LottieVixen idk the times i have probed into it the consensus seems to have been “well other people also speed so i have to keep up because not keeping up is unsafe” when actually the problem is the speeding
