Germans really don’t know what to do when anyone is different from them, huh

walking with a cane in France: most of them ignore you, like they would if you don’t have a cane. some are extra helpful (in useless ways, such as offering to carry your suitcase across a threshold when you just finished carrying it upstairs).

walking with a cane in Germany: they yell at you for having only one free hand which is a gross inefficiency and must be corrected.

@that I've done Germany in crutches back in October 2024 and at least in public transport, Germans are basically malicious with regards to visible disabilities. You need to say in perfect German "Entschuldigung, ich brauche ihr Sitz bitte" and even then they might still ignore you

@that In France I've mainly seen "overly enthusiastic allyship that is kinda harmful". People will see it as a moral failure in their part that you aren't taking their seat
