@ShadowJonathan the fallback text on akkoma and misskey also contain RE: [link] yet mastodon is formatting something wrong that akkoma doesn’t know what to do with it

@ShadowJonathan at the very least they aren’t completely fucking up quote events just mostly

@ShadowJonathan

like at the very least i suppose mastodon federation network™ users can create mastodon federation network inline posts™ now, everything else goes from “maybe it works” to “no those weird non-mastodon servers definitely do not allow quote posts (a feature they have had for years)”

@charlotte mastodon wanted consent in their quote posts

imo thats worth breaking compatibility for

@ShadowJonathan couldn’t they at least check if the other instance has normal quote posts

@charlotte no, because then people can just avoid the consent mechanism by using this "other" quote post mechanism

@ShadowJonathan i guess mastodon just nukes a lot of shit federating into it, but i mean like

if i’m on akkoma mastodon should mark my posts as quoteable. since it uses normal quotes and not mastodon network inline posts™. like i cannot approve them. or enable them globally. and it’s imo unreasonable for mastodon to just force that through to all other instances just so that a feature that has worked for years can integrate in the gargron-approved mastodon experience
