why do a load of vtubers use their phones for tracking?

I forgot to ask earlier while watching one but she mentioned she just went out to get a phone just to run the face tracking for her model

@LottieVixen
Probably readily available (including mounts), great camera quality, quite a bit of local compute to track the tracking points

@charlotte .. you know what I didn't even consider the phone doing the processing taking load of the PC... this makes a lot of sense.

@LottieVixen not sure if they are actually doing it like this but you could and the first two points would still apply

@charlotte yeah I am just so used to having a webcam, normally a byproduct of wanting a mic but not caring for a high end one rather than wanting a webcam

but I guess if you start out with vtubing, you then just need a mic I guess..

never really thought people might not have a webcam before for some reason.

@LottieVixen From what I'm aware at least, Apple ARKit is generally considered to be among the best quality you can get when it comes to face tracking.

@LottieVixen (and I've been curious about wanting to do this kinda stuff but heck I don't want to get an iPhone just for face tracking >.<)

@LottieVixen Heh I mean same - well, using my phone as a makeshift webcam. Tracking never felt particularly good though to me though.
