@mynameistillian over here, people don't consider you an actual adult if your parents don't spend thousands of euros to pay for your license at age 18. Many jobs require you to have a car, either implicitly or explicitly. Some even require you to use your own car for the job. It's ridiculous

@mynameistillian I have gotten job ads for jobs that were distinctly not in the city they advertised in and they hinted at that fact by saying that a driver's license racclass B was required

@mynameistillian which yes I can see why it would be required when the work PC is located at the tail end of that town right next to the highway exit…

@mynameistillian I grew up in a town of 30k people and it was an absolute requirement there, despite a good transit connection to the two closest cities. There is no good public transit in the rural areas. Having a car is the default.

Where I live, you can walk four minutes to a bus that comes every ten minutes and takes you to the city center within ten minutes.

Or you can walk ten minutes to the tram that takes you to the train station which has regional, high speed and international connections within five minutes.

Most people here still have a car.

@mynameistillian town of 11k and bus service is infrequent here that often it's faster to just walk

@mynameistillian going to the Jobcenter tomorrow and I'll sit in a bus for half an hour to drive around the city because the jobcenter is just outside what I have the spoons to walk to and this is genuinely the most reasonable racconnection

It also drops me off a solid 40 minutes early, for good measure

@charlotte @mynameistillian sounds like a good use case for a bike – is that not an option for you?

@burnitdown @mynameistillian it's no joke. This country is being held hostage by the car industry. The federal republic will collapse sooner than any of those companies
