linux is a descendant of gnu/hurd in the same way that macos is a descendant of bsd

@cancername most distributions of linux uses the gnu userland from gnu/hurd, in the same way that macos uses the bsd userland from freebsd. the kernels are different, plenty of bits have been rewritten or replaced, the origins probably do not matter for the user

@charlotte I mean, XNU /is/ based on BSD, and GNU coreutils were orginally written for BSD kernels. I see the point though.
