@novenary you can say a lot about discord nitro but at least it doesn’t make you pay for raccessibility features

@charlotte I mean, sure, other than the ads themselves as well as some features like animated profiles being accessibility hazards

@novenary if durov ran discord they would make you pay to turn animated profiles off

@snowy I wish I could stop using discord and telegram but there are communities I care about on there that I don't want to leave behind :(

@charlotte blobcatwtfnotlikethis
at least with telegram clients being open source it's more realistic to kill those things client-side while with discord you have to use technically-against-ToS client mods

@novenary @charlotte tbh I'm moving from tele to (other chats, but discord as an option) since tele is just so fucking sus

moreso than discord imo

i use web discord with reduced motion enabled which probably cuts down on at least a bit of the shittyness

(also, ublock origin in its default configuration blocks discord telemetry, I wonder if that technically breaks TOS lolol)

not that I would expect them to ban every web discord user

@5225225 @charlotte oh yeah telegram is really bad, no doubt about it

>web discord
I did as well but recently switched to vesktop because it consumes significantly less power on my new laptop lol

@novenary @charlotte afaik telegram clients that remove ads are against tos too, they are just harder to distinguish from “tos-conforming” cients than discord where there’s only one tos-conforming client (well, more if you count mobile clients)

@chayleaf @charlotte yeah, but the ads are among the least problematic parts of telegram, they are in fact very unintrusive and they only show up in channels
the nags for premium-related things are starting to get a bit more annoying in the mobile app

@novenary @chayleaf until the DSA passed in germany, telegram refused to let german users pay for premium on raccount of them violating german social media laws, and so there were no ads but the premium nags were still there
