My German is failing me a bit now that I am in Basel, I am not even sure they are speaking the same language. It's very hard xD

@maruno
Oh... Swiss German is not the hardest dialect to understand by a long shot (that would be some of the Bavarian dialects), but it's certainly up there on the list BlobHajMlem

Lëtzebuergesch would've been the leader of that list until a few years ago, when it was reclassified as a separate language... Mutual intelligibility with regular German is pretty much zero. Blobhaj

@SmolHaj Swiss German was perfectly fine, it is actually very understandable for me as a Dutch person.

But in Basel they have a Low Alemannic dialect, Baseldeutsch. It is something, I really need to do my best to listen to it. So we resorted to pretending not to speak German now. xD

Lëtzebuergisch and what they speak in Saarland is also not very understandable to me, it sounds similar to this.

@charlotte Zwitserduits was juist een beetje Oud-Nederlands gemengd met Duits, maar dit is Baselduits

Okay, if I know what to expect and look it up things are so obvious... "Hets guet gschmöckt?" Come on, this is just old Dutch!? :D
