people are doing that for the 3DS, they must've forgotten how nintendo banned people on there too. in which... fun fact... 3DS bans operate the same way that getting banned on the switch 2 does

@EeveeEuphoria @gelatin and retroactively banning people for piracy is also something they started on the 3ds

with the switch they changed how the eshop worked, meaning you could only download games if you own them

they then eventually backported that to the 3ds and started banning anyone trying to access games they do not own

@charlotte @gelatin oh yeah that was a whole thing! that's why hshop was made, before it was just freeshop because you could download straight from their servers

...but i still find it extremely hilarious they did *not* do that for the wii u, because they stopped giving a shit about that console so hard
