I find it so interesting reading the Code of Conduct/Dress Code for various furry events/meets and seeing what they consider "acceptable" to be.

  • Collars, but no leashes. Collars but only if they are in certain style (no metal parts).
  • Pup hoods yes/no. Pup hoods but only neoprene - latex is a no-no, leather is definitely a no-no.
  • Harnesses, but no D-rings.
  • "No kink based stuff" but the definition of such will rest solely with ourselves.

Very strange. Such an oddly complex domain of social and moral bikeshedding.

The bottom line to all of this is obviously "don't do things that will get us kicked out of our venue". I get that. It's a tightrope not imposed by the event staff but by the venue itself, and by extension, society at large.

@ret My favourite one is when furry events ban things that I’ve worn in non-furry settings without anyone even raising an eyebrow :v

I wonder if things will get tighter and tighter (pardon the pun, please) with the shift toward social conservatism and the regression of society (especially in the UK) to a Victorian mindset on sex and sexuality.

@ret banning leashes i guess kinda make sense because they increase injury risk and that makes accident insurance uneasy

@Ninji @ret I keep banging this drum somewhat though @mathias bangs it much harder, that too many furries have this notion that society understands minutiae in the same way they do and then just look the other way when a prime time fucking television show has pup hoods on literally every backup dancer for a big set performance on the masked singer or whatever the hell that show is. Prime time. Kids watching. No one cares because only uptight furries see pup hoods and think "horny".

@charlotte @ret they should ban leashes on dogs too then :3 (but nooo injury is acceptable when it's critters not perceived as human)

@IceWolf @ret the injury risk for dogs is significantly lower than for humans unless you are telling me a dog stumbling with a leash is the same distance as a human stumbling with a leash

@charlotte @ret Y'know, I forgot about falling-over distance, good point. I was thinking other people tripping over the leash (which is probably less of a concern here because both ends can adjust their position to be less of a trip hazard).
