@whitequark Hopefully things are slowly migrating to the unified login tho?

That's what happened around here, now everything just uses the unified one

@luana don't know, don't care when the new method works worse

@whitequark yeah i have 3 separate government logins and i can use to log into the second except that you can’t use it to log into other things. always amazing design

(the first one is the ministry of labour. which has a different separate login for some reason. the second one is bundid, the “SSO” solution, and the third is Elster which is the online tax filing platform. I can’t use the platform where someone unauthorized could commit tax fraud in my name to log into the student loan platform to see how much i owe and where i pay it off)

@charlotte there's at least two login services just for HMRC

@whitequark @charlotte and I will regularly pick the wrong one and be confused why it didn't work

@whitequark one time they offered students 200€ as compensation for high heating costs on a cloudflare hosted website that is named the german equivalent to “onetimepayment200.uk”. and that one did not let you log in via the tax account, only via your id card

@luana @whitequark no it's worse. I have three Gov One accounts for three different services. none of those accounts work on other services. it's the most bafflingly broken design.

@whitequark @luana all for the same email too. if and when they do finally make it "one" I look forward to seeing the exciting new ways they manage to break things.

@whitequark surprise! all of them run a random amount of soft and hard checks on your credit file :3

@maeow they were pretty clear about running it through Experian

@whitequark I can use login.gov to manage my travel ID (nexus), but when irs.gov replaced their in-house account/verification system a few years ago they instead chose id.me's video thing -.-

plus a few other federal logins, and a pile of state ones (plus even more state ones that use login by name, postcode, state ID card number, and SSN)

(edit: id.me, not okta)
