lmao TikTok banned my account without an option for appeal
the last comment I made was about the cut equippable medallions in Ocarina of Time so I assume the AI moderation is as upset about them being cut as I am
LIKE THE MEDALLIONS ARE SO STUPID IN THE FINAL GAME
Why are they even there? "With our powers combined, we'll make the GAYEST bridge you've ever seen!!"
Me too >:( Hot take:
The Forest Temple should be the Spirit Temple. Then the current Spirit Temple should be retooled to be the Wind Temple and take all the puzzles from it that were originally meant for the Light Temple and shove them back there. Then Nabooru should give you the wind medallion early instead of getting the gauntlets and you should use that as an adult to solve wind puzzles.
Then you should be able to go to Ganon's Castle at any time instead of needing a gay bridge, and instead of using the light arrow to destroy the balls at the end you should use the associated medallion arrows to destroy them, which I imagine was the original idea which is probably why the weird Ganon balls are even there to begin with.
@Rusty I used to have a tiktok account until it vanished randomly without warning.. I assume I got banned? I never went back either way
@TabbsTheBat I'm just mad cuz it's Spooky Lake Month
Geo is on YouTube though so I'll just watch it there.
@YukiSnowmew They removed the ability to equip them. The medallions were originally equippable both to your items as well as being equippable to your arrows.
The items in the game are remnant of that:
Dins Fire -> Fire Medallion
Farore's Wind -> Wind Medallion
Nayru's Love -> Shadow Medallion
As well as the elemental arrows, where you'd equip the medallions to your bow:
Fire Arrow -> Fire Medallion
Ice Arrow -> Water/Ice Medallion
Light Arrow -> Light Medallion
The Shadow Temple is actually one of the older temples in the game. That's why, if you look down at the entrance of the Shadow Temple at the pedestal where you're supposed to use Din's Fire, there's the Fire Medallion emblem. It's also why you can freeze Bongo Bongo with the ice arrows even though you don't get the ice arrows until the Gerudo Training Grounds, since you were supposed to already have beaten the Water Temple and thus have the medallion to equip to make ice arrows at that point.
@YukiSnowmew There's a lot of info that leaked from the Nintendo gigaleak a few years back including an old build of Ocarina. A group of people made a reconstruction ROM that adds the equippable medallions back based on unused code, documents, and best guesses and it's really cool to see
@Rusty @YukiSnowmew Okay, I knew about the medallions being equippable, but I never noticed that Fire Medallion emblem. I thought they just got replaced by the warp songs or something boring like that.
@RudieWolfPup @YukiSnowmew Yeah, they sounded like they were gonna be pretty cool.
A lot of them were pretty reminiscent of the spells from Zelda 2. It's interesting how much Ocarina takes from Zelda 2, with all of the sages being named for the villages in Zelda 2 (minus Mido since he was cut as a sage in favor of Saria) and Impa since, y'know, its Impa.
Regarding the songs though, you were originally supposed to slot the Spiritual Stones into the Ocarina of Time in order to power it up. The original Spiritual Stones were designed to look like bits of music notation and had little holes you'd socket them into on the ocarina. I guess they decided getting the lame ass Fairy Ocarina was more important.

@Rusty @RudieWolfPup @YukiSnowmew wasn’t there also something with gerudo training grounds originally having the iron boots as the treasure (and ice cavern getting the ice arrows)
@Rusty @RudieWolfPup Nah, I think they made the right choice with the ocarina. Slotting in the stones sounds cool on paper, but starting with the fucking OCARINA OF TIME would have made it feel a lot less special.
Plus it's realistic! I mean, my first real ocarina was a plastic focalink! Then I upgraded to a nice ceramic double focalink, just like Link upgrading from the fairy ocarina to the ocarina of time uwu
@charlotte @RudieWolfPup @YukiSnowmew That's just a fan theory and I don't think it's true. The Gerudo Training Grounds are actually a reworked version of the demo they presented at Spaceworld in 1997. I think they just plunked it into the final build because they had the map and they might as well use it, and the ice arrows didn't have anywhere else to go so they just plunked them there. I imagine it was more about not wanting to just have two elemental arrows in the pause menu since it'd look weird, so they didn't want to scrap the ice arrows.
I think the closest thing to the ice cavern being meant to give you the ice arrows is the fact that the water temple was originally supposed to be an ice temple, and I think the ice cave is probably a remnant of that temple. That temple would've given you the ice medallion, so I guess technically the ice cave was meant to give you the ice arrows back when it was the temple, but that was way earlier in development. The iron boots came later in development when they decided to change the ice temple to the water temple. Plus you need the iron boots to get through GTG, so it wouldn't make sense for them to be the reward for it.
@YukiSnowmew @RudieWolfPup I dunno, I feel like Zelda unceremoniously chucking the Ocarina of Time at you is kinda lame
I think it would've been much more thematically interesting if you spent the first half of the game powering up your magical instrument that you then get to use for the rest of the game. Gathering the Spiritual Stones just so you can leave the door open for Ganondorf to take over is... annoying.
I still hate that plot point.
And my first irl ocarina was the Ocarina of Time, so nyeeaaahhhh
@Rusty @YukiSnowmew I had a plastic blue ocarina. But that reminds me, that ocarina they're making for the remake is a real ocarina that works on its own, right? Not just an accessory for the game? Because I'm not that excited over the remake yet but a new ocarina sounds cool...
Also I'm glad I'm not the only one who was seeing Zelda II connections (besides the obvious ones)! Another one is Link's pose and animation when he gets knocked back by a spike trap. Try having the sword and shield in hand for the full effect.
