Well you don’t see that everyday: Chinese plates in Amsterdam. The stickers declare they’re on a journey from Qingyang to Iceland

@Gaelan the part of the plate I didn't cover identifies the province and city of origin.

@0xabad1dea I do wondr how international license plate laws work. I've seen a few euro plates around here in the States and I don't know the legality of that. Are US plates valid over there?

@gudenau there's a lot of cooperation between governments on the plate thing – otherwise international trucking would be difficult indeed...

you'll see US plates in very strange places because the US military pays for shipping deployed families' personal vehicles and then makes the arrangements with the local governments to smooth it over

@nortti

England: doesn't contain any engs

Finland: doesn't contain a particularly unusual number of fins

Holland: may or may not contain hols

Iceland: definitely contains ice

oops, I forgot to put the full translation of the message: "Qingyang <-> Iceland: courageous people are first in line to enjoy the world"

(Qingyang is a city in Gansu province, central China. The area code on their license plate matches.)

Huh, didn't expect 'Iceland' to be quite so literal in Chinese. Would've assumed something like 伊斯兰
