It's weird seeing Bluesky report over 99.9% uptime on their status page when I can't help but notice they seem to break for multiple hours every other month.

Wonder if the status page is as slop-coded as the rest of the website

@lobo @rkniner Uptime is perfect when you never track The Thing That Goes Down

@rkniner That's hilarious because 99.9% uptime is actually awful and yet they're absolutely not even close to it.

@rkniner it’s probably some bullshit like “well the PDSes are up 99.9% of the time!!!!!” even though the PDSes are glorified databases

@rkniner i am pretty sure at least that is what is going on because the probes on their status page are all just the PDSes. and gifs.bsky.app and video.bsky.app which i presume is where videos are stored

@charlotte Probably just checking that it can ping them, and not whether any API calls routed through them succeed.

Of course, since those rely on other servers, those should really be added to the status page as well

@rkniner fwict the PDSes are actually fine. the issue is that everything goes through the appview which is not monitored even though it’s how Essentially All bluesky users look at bluesky
