doing the math and the 600€ on the lower end would exclusively go towards rent and health insurance.

@charlotte is this what they mean by germany not really having a minimum wage?

i should add that they advertise the job as being full time, part time, and a “mini” job

600€ would be like 10h a week of minimum wage work

@charlotte wdym about health insurance? Aren't minijobs almost untaxed?

And doesn't a minijob mean that you can still get Bürgergeld (and in the end have a total income of a few hundreds above Bürgergeld alone) except that job center won't pester you too much about searching for a job?
(That's the reason our regular cat sitter does cat sitting; most of the money he's getting paid are going towards reducing his Bürgergeld, but also he likes sitting cats, and with this source of (meagre) income job center leaves him alone so that he doesn't have to get some less pleasant job under threat of being cut off Bürgergeld.)

@IngaLovinde minijobs as sole job outside of marriage don’t make enough to pay taxes, but health insurance still needs to be paid, and it’s like 110€/mo outside of saxony

@IngaLovinde also yeah you can extend it with bürgergeld but like

what’s even the point at that point

@charlotte the point as I understand is that when you have at least _some_ income and engage in _some_ economic activity, job center is much less likely to demand things from you and to pester you and you can easily keep things going this way for many years without getting a lot of harassment from job center.
