@whitequark i don’t know but probably the best use of them i have seen is with the mining flotation chemical “sodium ethyl xanthate”

@whitequark is a buttplug-shaped (and sized) thing not intrinsically a buttplug

@rcombs they're hollow and made from thin polycarbonate. I wouldn't

@whitequark PEEK is an amazing material… very chemically inert (almost as good as Teflon), and easy to machine with good mechanical properties (unlike Teflon, which is like machining butter). One of my favorite materials!
I know that wasn’t the point of the post but felt I had to promote the light grey-brown goodness that is PEEK.

@doc oh I fuckin love it. a friend wanted to DIY a PEEK 3d printing setup with a consumer device just for the challenge (after nylon and PP normal plastics don't do it for her anymore, something that must be annealed seems to hold more appeal)

@doc also I think machining butter is easier than teflon, the CTE is probably less and you can freeze it...

@whitequark @rcombs There are many emergency room medical professionals who are suddenly cringing for reasons they do not understand...

@iris_meredith @whitequark @rcombs They have MRTs. They understand the topic in excruciating detail and 3D. (Enough so to talk to anonymous strangers in trains about it; which is how I came aware of this fact.)

@whitequark ok that partly explains the news article about battery tech I read that showed a clear buttplug full of white powder

@whitequark I don't know if I wish I'd been familiar with them before seeing this ad at Akihabara last year

@whitequark you'll be pleased to know about the existence of ceramic pine cone ornaments that look exactly as one would expect. I'm not sure if as coffee table piece it would be less evocative or kinkier, though.

@whitequark @HeNeArXn OMG I can't even!

Is this a deliberate design or accidental?

@ppxl @HeNeArXn it is not made to look like a buttplug on purpose
