the pattern that i notice in so many centrist/liberal parties both abroad and at home is that whenever conservatives or fascists do a terrible thing they don't always challenge the act itself and what it really represents but moreso the fact that it lacks decorum and legal membrane. i legit saw ppl say the problem they have with ICE is not that immigrants are scooped and deported at all but that they are scooped "without due process"

and like...i mean they hate ICE so that's a step up but...uhhhhh?

republicans are like "we are kidnapping children in unmarked vans and tearing apart families bc they're foreigners" and dems are like "mark the vans!!!" and "train the kidnappers so they can kidnap more nicely!" or something

like yeah sure due process is nice and all and might reduce the amount of people who get snatched away just because some racist қотақбас decided so

but there's something really unsettling about how a terrible, inhumane thing suddenly becomes normal and civilized when you wrap it in papers

i also think because of this tendency to hold decorum and law before ethics that dems are really just handing over reins of power to unbridled fascists who don't care about neither
