fucking why won’t linux just work i tried to suspend it while i was out and it broke again

@tauon sleep mode is a horribly cursed thing that never ever works

except on my laptop and steam deck for some reason

but every other computer shits the bed when linux tries to do it, i assume because microsoft has leverage over how sleep mode functions

@EeveeEuphoria could be hardware based
steam deck is designed for linux of course (and to suspend and restore very often)
for me it works 50% of the time and breaks the other 50%
hibernate (suspend to disk) is the same

@tauon yeah, i don't get it either

my computer has a 50/50 chance of not working with sleep, i haven't tried hibernate but considering the freeze happens before the system shuts off, i assume similar results would happen

but my laptop works perfectly fine with all of this, it's just some generic HP laptop so i don't get it

it has a ryzen 5 5600G and a BB50I aorus if that matches anything you have

@tauon @EeveeEuphoria generally slep ( ) issues are a mix of bios/uefi issues (s state) and kernel issues and sometimes userspace issues

which is why sleep and hibernation barely works on anything and is annoying to troubleshoot and usually isnt the users fault

@june @tauon yeah, i hear fucking around with bios settings might fix it, but it also doesn't for a lot of people lol

considering the horrendous state windows is in at all times, i'm surprised sleep consistently works on windows machines

but then again as i said they're probably the ones dictating how sleep should function, after all i think they made that horribly cursed S0 sleep mode

@june @tauon that does also explain why laptops seem to be more consistent for me, because PC motherboards just do cursed things and windows somehow manages it, while linux cries because they expect things to work in a standardized way

@EeveeEuphoria @tauon might be because deep sleep seems to be raccompletely nonfunctional on newer pcs?

occasionally i can get to turn my pc back on after with no issues

s2idle seems to “work” a lot better but given that the fans are still spinning i doubt that it is doing much

hibernate has no issues whatsoever since it doesn’t use any of the firmware suspend support i think

also i did forget one incredibly minor issue with hibernate and that is that the mobo reinits the rgb controller in such a way that i need to restart openrgb to get it to work again

@charlotte @tauon i vaguely remember seeing that and was trying to remember lol

also yeah my mobo has RGB stuff, i usually turn it off with openRGB tho lmao

the annoying thing i have is my keyboard acts funky with RGB after sleep, usually requiring me to unplug and replug it back in, and restart openRGB
