what is the point of making /bin a link to /usr/bin? is it safer or something? (os archlinux installed using archinstall)

@plombirka mainly for compatibility with stuff that expects stuff to be in /bin/xyz or /usr/bin/xyz

there's no real reason to have them be distinct, so distros (for a While now) have had them merged

@5225225 @plombirka yeah the original reasoning why they were split in the first place is that on one of the original UNIX systems they ran out of space on the root tape and started putting programs on the user tape too
