hot take but quotes aren't some fucked up dark evil edgy version of boosts, a quoted post is an attachment of the quoting post

@ezri quotes are literally just a link with a preview but somehow people try to make them out as some big complex thing

@sammy @ezri honestly "links to other fedi posts have inline embeds" would be identical to quotes and i assume less people would be mad about it and ask everyone to disable "linking to my posts with an embed"

depends on the client tbh, but yeah, i don't see a real difference between a link to a post and a "quote boost"

@sammy @ezri tbh i don't even tend to "normal" boost that much since i think boosts are often kinda spammy (i just hide them in my timeline since a lot of boosts are just shit i don't care about, and it's really easy to click the boost button without actually engaging with the post). i only do it for art posts that i really like or posts that i really agree with (and probably in both cases i also commented on the post too to add more)

i wonder if fedi would be better if it just never had boosts, only quote boosts, and you were encouraged to actually explain why you're sharing this post

though that might lead to a lot of boosts with empty/useless comments. eh. hard to say.
