"device hoarding"
yes thats called taking care of your tools
@ShadowJonathan "MP3 backupping trend" is hurting both the "buy every record thrice" and the "continuously pay money to listen to the same songs" revenue stream.

@ShadowJonathan ugh why is everyone age hoarding these days, can't they just die like medieval peasants
@ShadowJonathan me who still uses my iphone 6s and 6s plus sometimes tether downgraded to older firmware
they both work fine and whenever i replace their batteries they will work better
and same goes for my 3ds but i now gotta replace the lower lcd
id also include my iphone 7+ but thats one of my "newer" phones it doesnt get classed as old
@ElliesSurviving @ShadowJonathan by “old devices” they mean the iphone 15 or older
@charlotte @ShadowJonathan oh 😭
ig that also classifies my pixel 8 pro released around the same time as "old" then? ive had this for almost 2 years and it still feels brand new, no reason to upgrade
also didnt mention my 6 year old iPad 7 is still my main iPad too despite having a broken vol up button and being on iOS 15, still works
but tldr and seriously people think the iPhone 15 is old 😭 shit only released the other year
@ElliesSurviving @ShadowJonathan it’s based on a super out of touch article probably written by the personification of raccapitalism
the iphone 15 is 2 years old at this point and i guess that means that apple is entitled to another grand of your inraccome (not doing this is likened to sabotage)
@ElliesSurviving @ShadowJonathan the exact timing of this is even more suspicious because at the current time ram prices are surging by a factor of 2x or more, and flash is starting to surge too in price
@charlotte @ShadowJonathan the article mentions someone using a galaxy a71, looking that up the only issue is it got to android 13 which isnt even a big issue cuz on android apps support way more OS versions than lets say iOS apps do, and tbh you could probably unofficially run android 16 on that just fine and it would basically be a normal modern phone, its still good for 2025 standards, my god the people who write these articles know nothing about technology

@ElliesSurviving @charlotte they get told that its bad because companies cant sell, and they try to justify their opinion to serve that idea
@ShadowJonathan @charlotte also technically its bad for the company because a lot of the "old" shit (anything unsupported) wont have the same tracking and spying capabilities that the latest devices do, and they want that tracking and spying
@ShadowJonathan device hoarding aka these little creatures don't deserve to live in landfill and deserve to live in my house, bring me your lost and forgotten devices, i will refurbish them and make them warm
@charlotte @ElliesSurviving @ShadowJonathan oh wow is flash also becoming more expensive now? why why why why why?
@ElliesSurviving @charlotte @ShadowJonathan i run android 13 and i get more app compat issues because my phone is rooted than because of the os version
@CauseOfBSOD @charlotte @ShadowJonathan tldr: AI (genAI)
@ElliesSurviving @charlotte @ShadowJonathan why does generative AI need flash as well? was all the RAM and all the GPUs not enough?
