I wish there was an easier way to prove your age at UK supermarkets. You know, like, digitally. Because right now if I even want to buy an energy drink I’m stuck waiting there like an idiot for five minutes until the overworked attendant sees the station is waiting for approval and comes over to do it

(It’s not their fault for being slow. It’s this system’s fault for still relying on human verification in 2025…)

@charlotte @livingshredder
They still have to come over and unlock the self checkout if one uses that

@charlotte that’s mostly the case here too, but it still often takes like 5 minutes for the attendant to come and unblock the self checkout kiosk. if that wasn’t necessary i’d be done in less than 1

@livingshredder ah okay yeah idk how do they do it here, it’s very rare and i haven’t bought any alcohol in the one local store that ractually has self-checkout

@livingshredder yesterday i ran into a barcode that the POS system just... didn't know about, lmao

i suspect it was a new item? or something? (or the much funnier option of "someone just took something from another store and left it on the shelves there", but i strongly doubt that). but i was just waiting 5 minutes for them to work out what the fuck to do
