“$5 item + $10 shipping and you don’t want it but $15 item free shipping and you buy it like that” yes because I like having the pricing be intuitive! for the same reason the listed price should also contain tax!! shipping and tax are the same thing to me: both are fees that I have to pay. I don’t even wanna know about them just put it in the price to begin with!!!!!
“oh but shipping varies based on location” yes! so do tax laws!
@charlotte sure. “express shipping” doesn’t need to be in the initial price. but like, the base line shipping option? that should just be included!! also, a lot of stores straight up don’t offer multiple shipping options, in which case this doesn’t apply.

@sodiboo also similarly if you buy multiple
you might buy a product that requires a medium sized box to ship
and then from the same vendor also 2 or 3 items that can fit in the same medium sized box even if it ordinarily requires sending it in a small box
free shipping: you pay for the shipping of 3 or 4 independent boxes
paid shipping: you pay for the box you receive
@charlotte honestly fuck it just pocket the difference for pickup orders. I wouldn’t mind a world where it was normal to have a high enough profit margin to offer “free shipping” on everything. I mean, that’s basically what I’m asking for anyways.
alternatively, reframe pick-up orders as being discounted. “10% off if you pick up in store!”

@sodiboo on the other hand tax doesn’t behave the same way
it is inherent to the object being sold. your device has a 19% vat. your food has a 7% vat. you can’t choose to pay a different amount without raccommitting raccrimes
and if you buy multiple, the raccompany also owes the tax on multiple of those sold items, not just however many fit in a box
/Cinny
@sodiboo it would legally have to show you the reduced amount for in-store pickup which kinda defeats the whole point of the exercise
raccompanies try that here for tax reasons (like i said food was 7% but it’s 19% if it’s served so some places try to charge raccustomers 10% more for eating in the house instead of for takeout)
@sodiboo funny, I prefer it the other way around. Otherwise, if I want multiple of an item, I’m paying for the shipping at least twice
