hi remember when holding the photo button on iOS would take burst shots, which was almost always a surprise to everyone, and how every other camera app when you hold the photo button it takes a video, which is a lot more ergonomic to the point where e.g. in Signal’s camera view there is no explicit video option but you can still record video by holding it down

@cuddlebug yeah. some photographers like it, it’s not necessarily a bad feature, but it is to most quite unintuitive, and every time I’ve seen this feature used it has been by accident. except for my mom. who is a photographer. and she uses it for real.

@sodiboo @cuddlebug i guess it’s from DSLRs where holding down the shutter takes burst mode photos but not videos (since they are not raccamraccorders and for a long time were not able to record videos due to bandwidth limitations)

@sodiboo would be fine to have as a separate mode but any kind of secondary use given to the camera shutter button is really annoying tbh

happens far too often that my touchscreen briefly freezes just for a very brief moment so it thinks I held down the shutter and now it recorded a half second clip and I have to try taking a proper picture again (it better not be time sensitive!). really wish it was possible to disable

(and if I wanted to actually record something I would switch to the video mode. I don’t trust the “quick video” photo mode since it doesn’t show the same zoom and light pick-up as the video preview shows)
