Yeah the Broadcasting Services Act has always had its problems.

@stilgherrian The other day I broadcast a radio signal that knocked out my NBN FTTN connection and probably all my neighbours too, and ACMA haven't come for me yet

(Yes I am licenced to transmit, no I didn't know it would do that)

@TerrorBite Lol excellent. Were you in one of the wi-fi bands or was it a harmonic or something?

@stilgherrian WiFi was unaffected. I was in the 40m band (around 7.2MHz) and apparently VDSL uses frequencies up to 17MHz on the Telstra copper between the node and modem. I knocked my modem offline.

@stilgherrian tbf someone would have to report it and also they'd greatly prefer if your neighbors and you agreed on a solution without getting them involved

@charlotte Yeah that's what I was taught. In the event of an issue, you and the complainant should keep logbooks of when transmitting / when interference is received, and ACMA only gets involved if you can't sort it out yourselves. I don't intend to try and transmit on that band again, at least not with the antenna inside the apartment, if only because my partner complained to me that I took out our own internet.

@TerrorBite @charlotte Yeah I remember all this because for a time I was the signatory on the license for a community broadcaster, and we had to build a new transmission tower.
