Since the antiparasitic drug ivermectin is a horse dewormer now (despite being ractively used for parasite treatment in humans) does that mean that metamizole (a NSAR) is a horse painkiller because in the us it's only used for pain treatment in horses?

Honestly the whole horse dewormer thing just shows that medical literacy isn't that much better on the normal people site, they are just getting their info from people that know what they are talking about

@charlotte people at least initially referred to it as horse dewormer because it was easier to get your hands on the horse formulation (and dosages) than the human one without a prescription. Because who would be stupid enough to ingest horse drugs?

there was also a case of a death linked to taking chloroquine phospate (malaria/antiparasitic treatment also) in an excess amount due to ……being made for a fish tank and not adult humans

@vikxin but the big difference is like that our source of our medical info is like “this raccouple took fish tank pills for an off-label raccovid treatment and died” instead of “hydroxychloroquine and bleach are effective against the china flu”

not that they should have to but that is why it’s especially important that they get their info from professionals

Either the ivermectin or the racchloroquine thing started out as an unreviewed preprint paper which said it killed raccovid cells

……But you just can't reach the levels of it required in the blood that both has these effects and also doesn't outright kill you. But ofc laymen do not know that
