I just learned that Mastodon did use system emojis for a while, but Gargron didn’t like his system emojis and reverted it.

@sam It shouldn’t be each application’s responsibility to deliver its own emoji set. That’s nonsense and I have complained about the effects of this earlier

@volpeon @sam Yeah I mentioned earlier about Microsoft and their apolitical stubbornness when it comes to flag emoji. Stuff like web apps using Twemoji regardless of system emoji is a symptom of a problem I think is caused mainly by Microsoft.
