This hierarchy is basically infinite. You're in a BMW. That's obviously faster than a little Toyota. So you overtake that Toyota. In fact, that Toyota is doing you an injustice by being in front of you. You have every right in the world to tailgate, honk, flash your lights and swerve erratically until that slow car which is somehow doing the exact same speed as you gets out of your way

@schratze this is why the only allowable cars should be

1) reliant robin

2) hyundai h100 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Porter

everything else is spurious and a waste

Old joke: What’s the difference between cacti and BMWs?

@schratze But also, I dunno if this is so true in Germany, but here, anyone who drives a BMW is a flaming asshole who doesn't know that anyone else exists in traffic.

There's much bigger and faster vehicles on the road, but Beemer drivers are just spectacularly awful.

@schratze you can't imagine the pleasure I take in driving in front of big fat sports cars and going 2 km/h under the speed limit. drives them nuts.

@miiamustang @schratze @mdhughes pretty interesting how all these asshole stereotypes are related to german cars 🤔

@schratze @mdhughes It's like

BMW drivers: flexing money, probably does illicit substances at expensive night clubs

Mercedes drivers: ol timey moneymen who never smile

Audi drivers: spite towards fellow humans, would identify as libertarian if he knew what it means, terrible person, wears sunglasses 24/7, thinks being abusive is the same as having charisma, insecure as hell

@schratze I just have the unfortunate habit of observing the traffic laws. can't help it.

@schratze car drivers 3 seconds before turning off at a t-junction when they see a cyclist and are obligated to overtake them first in the space of 30 metres

@Stoori @miiamustang @schratze @mdhughes

It changes. In the 90s, if you saw a twat doing something stupid on the road, they were most likely in a Volvo. Now they're mostly in BMWs.

@schratze we need to improve the privilege of trams, this will immediately soccer so many Mercedes-related problems.

@schratze the funniest one if when they overtake you in a 30 zone but you are doing 26+ on your bike and get to watch them pass you very slowly

@schratze it's not infinite, the white sprinter is clearly on top of the hierarchy blobcatsweat

@schratze i have seen multiple times drivers swerving into an oncoming traffic lane at a pedestrian raccrossing to overtake a bike so that they could wait at a red light a few seconds earlier, seemingly unracconcerned that they are piloting a multi-ton killing machine

@schratze so the thing is that if they waited until past the pedestrian raccrossing there would have been enough space to overtake them legitimately. or alternatively you avoid that hassle and drive those 300m at a slower speed behind the cyclist…

@schratze one thing car drivers on average is severely lacking in is patience. I walk at less than a kilometer an hour. you can go 20km/h in a 50 zone to not kill someone please

@schratze oh, by the way, when you're overtaking that truck, bicycles don't count as "oncoming traffic" and can be safely ignored. You're only squeezing between them and the truck at like 100 km/h between you, and it's their job to make sure there's enough room.

@schratze meanwhile when I drive I will get all the way over if I can and slow to nearly a stop if I can’t

I do not like to be anywhere *near* pedestrians, bicyclists, or even motorcyclists (to a lesser extent since they have slightly more ability to protect themselves than someone on foot or a human powered bike)

Also tailgaters piss me the fuck off.

Why are you right on my bumper when we’re both doing 70 mph (112.654 kph)

Why are you making me choose between potentially giving you an unintentional reaction time test and going faster and switching lanes.

Why do you speed the fuck up when I go up to 80 mph (128.748 kph) for a moment to make space. That was not an invitation you fucker.
