@sodiboo doesn’t the tree style tab extension on firefox do basically the same thing with the trails?

@neon @sodiboo iirc the trails here open each tab nested in the parent. idk if tree style tabs can do that (from what i remember tabs open next to the current tab by default at leasT)

@kopper @neon @sodiboo iirc yes that's the default but it can be changed to act that way in like, less than 30s

@sodiboo I feel like after you start getting enough tabs through it’ll get cluttered on the side which to me is kinda anxiety inducing

Interesting. Might need to try it then.
Should check of my other favourite extensions (e.g. unlock origin) work in electron

@4censord

also from FAQ:

[…] extension support is on the horizon. Until then, we’ve built in essentials: Password Manager, Adblocker, and Dark Reader.

@sodiboo hmm, that doesnt say which password managers, so i'll need to check

Also I need a bunch more special ones e.g. for socks proxy management, but that might be solvable with a proxyswitch file as well

@sodiboo I’m tryna dissect this thing under the microscope and if I’m looking at this right it’s fucking electron, and it’s designed like garbage at least on the license prompt bit
There’s no x and it doesn’t appear in alt-tab or the taskbar so you have to kill it with taskmanager

@sodiboo “Isn’t chrome memory-intensive?”
“Horse continuously saves your Trails, so your work is always protected—even if you need to restart your browser to free up memory.”
Wow that is like THE bad answer you can give to that question
“Well yeah but u can just reset”

@sodiboo Oh my god it is deadass just electron ms_skull

@jded @sodiboo that can’t possibly be secure can it? like doesn’t electron expose full access to the host system

1
0
1

@kimapr @sodiboo @jded it can’t be an iframe because most sites can’t be in that

@tauon @kimapr @jded yeah, but with host permissions comes the ability to isolate sites in a web context, no? regular-chromium browsers and Firefox ones build their entire UI with web technologies, embedding websites with basically a privileged iframe acting as a tab root.

I don’t know the details of what it’d be called but I don’t see why this couldn’t extend to electron as well. I know e.g. itch.io does the same thing: their app is a web browser more or less (with an address bar and everything!), and Horse says that Brave started as an Electron application too.

say what you will about Electron’s performance or boat, but why are we assuming it is missing basic security features required in a browser?

@sodiboo @kimapr @jded im not responding because ive clearly worded something incorrectly and this answer seems extremely wrong and i dont want to make it worse by responding
