Dear people learning German:
Replace ä, ö, ü, and ß with their respective combinations of ae, oe, ue, and ss.

DO NOT TAKE THE POINTS AWAY!

Example:
schwĂĽl = hot and humid
schwul = gay

@finn ß → ss is also imperfect:

in maĂźen: in moderation
in massen: en masse

@charlotte The substitution I learned way back when was áşž -> sz.

@charlotte @finn yeah that one's a bit shaky. Not sure what else you'd replace it with. sz?

@yingxera @finn sz iirc only has issues in some names but it isn’t recommended for some bizarre reason

@mkj @charlotte @finn replacing Ăź with sz is common in Austria and Switzerland but definitely wrong in Germany, even though ss does create some ambiguity.
