hey so anyone know how contract law works in germany

if a company supplies me with electricity without a valid contract, who has to pay?

absolute scammer behavior

started a contract without my consent, got a cancellation within a few hours, still hasn’t looked at it 9 days later and have been supplying me since then (the cancellation was before they started supplying)

@charlotte@akko.chir.rs no lawyer and this is no legal advice. But without a contract you should not be required to pay. On the other hand, the power provider can cut off power at any time.

Keep in mind, in Germany usually there is a government provided power plan you get automatically assigned to when you never signed up for power. It's usually more expensive.

@kura I have already received 3 letters from the local power provider, one enrolling me into their power plan, and two about it getting cancelled twice on two different dates, corresponding with my old and new electricity providers

as such i am covered until the 27th when my new contract starts

@charlotte@akko.chir.rs like I said, I have no legal idea. Just that I was put onto that plan once. It was a pain.
Anyway. I wish you lick and hope you can get proper advice. I was just guessing pretty much. Plus I don't know your exact situation (and honestly I don't want to. Cannot help much either way.)

@charlotte but do you have a valid contract with any supplier?
If not, then afaik you have to pay to "guaranteed supplier" (cannot remember the exact German term for that, basically a company in your area that has to provide everybody with electricity at fixed rate, without minimum contract period).

@IngaLovinde yeah so that’s the thing essentially

I received two different cancellation letters today dated to the same date, cancelling the basic electricity service on two different dates (the first one being the 13th the day before the bad contract started and the second one being the 26th, the date the new contract started). Since then i have obviously been with electricity so just ?

@charlotte if you don't have a valid electricity contract with anybody, afaik your electricity is supplied by Grundversorger, and you have to pay them for your usage.

@charlotte how do you know whose electricity is this? I don't think the electrons are marked?

@IngaLovinde it’s the only one supplier that makes sense

based on my account information on the bad electricity provider, a contract is active

based on the letters i have received from the basic electricity provider, the contract was canceled before it got delivered
