i am wondering how taiko no tatsujin multiplayer works

at this point i think my two explanations are:

  • ultra low japan ping
  • they fake it

it’s a fast paced rhythm game, the lag needs to be smaller than a few frames, especially considering one of the songs that you can play online has a section where you have to keep a 24Hz (!) drumroll for about 2s

@charlotte if I were making a networked rhythm game I'd make it like Momentum Mod where everyone is playing a local rhythm game and just sending a live recording to everyone else

@ben yeah that is what i’m assuming bandai namco is doing too. You play against a recording of someone else’s previous online game
