i actually wonder how poorly typos can be understood by screenreader users

some are probably common enough that they Know them, and yet others are homophones where the reader might not be able to tell the difference in the first place, but others might become an incomprehensible mess

@charlotte screen readers can read character by character

macOS's VoiceOver has rotors, and a dedicated action (that's not applicable to alt text, found in VO-h). Android's TalkBack has reading controls. idk about iOS (voiceover, also has rotors), Linux's Orca, and Windows' Narrator.

as to how typos are pronounced, I have no idea. that's up to the TTS system. some screen readers (AFAIK macOS's voiceover) can also control pronunciation.

@jacksonchen666 i’m aware that they can read character by character, it was more a question to folks that use them if they can recognize misspelled words

@charlotte I would ask a screen reader user, but my guess would be keep if relevant, fix otherwise

@charlotte I think mainly it depends on the intent of the pic transcribed. If it's misspelled on purpose, then communicating that via alt text is important to keep the context.
