absolute state of food marketing
i have a bag of chips that says:

  1. gluten-free
  2. no preservatives
  3. no added msg

translation:

  1. we didn’t intentionally add allergens to our food because we are so nice uwu
  2. no EVIL preservatives, only the good ones like salt
  3. our chips taste worse than that of our competition

well to be precise, they did add milk to them which is an allergen, although i presume people don’t expect cheese to be lactose free

@charlotte counterpoint to that last point: in my experience the best chips are actually the bottom shelf cheapest chips available. exactly cause they do not bother adding any flavouring.

@charlotte Sadly 'gluten-free' is also often just a marketing response because so many people go 'gluten is bad mkay' without actually being gluten intolerant.

@charlotte I am missing 'no E(vil) numbers' (we write down the name instead of a number)

@MarunoAB the only reason gluten free alternatives exist in normal stores is because of fad diets, and that’s who it’s for. there’s a reason why the lack of other allergens isn’t plastered on every product

@MarunoAB the most common ingredient intolerance is lactose, yet only products that are supposed to naturally contain lactose ever come in lactose-free varieties
