what if instead of a handful of visibility presets, you could just tick on and off for each type of feed where the post should appear. for example

❌ public timeline
âś… local timeline
âś… my followers timeline
âś… non-followers

âś… boostable by followers
❌ boostable by non-followers

and then you save a preset in your account settings and change them on the fly if you want a different type of visibility

@turtle ❌ I don't want this post to show up for people and instances I've blocked (IMPOSSIBLE) (GONE WRONG)

@schratze you could also add

âś… favoritable by followers
❌ favoritable by non-followers

then it's 8 binary variables, and then can be encoded as 1 byte, and specified by 0-255 integer just to make things worse aaaaa

@byte âś… non-followers may only react with the trebuchet emoji

@turtle hmm I may be mistaken but I think this actually got better over time? I think different softwares still don't communicate blocks the way they're supposed to though. Not sure

@schratze @haskal some of this wouldn't be possible without breaking compatibility, but a hilarious one that would would be "visible on my followers timeline but not my profile" since you can send it to their inbox but not list it on your profile list

@charlotte @schratze @haskal assuming you mean "followers only", in which case, you're correct

(unlisted just puts the public list in CC instead of the To)

@charlotte follower only posts is put there on a higher level, above protocol - if you look in https://masto.fuzzy.systems/users/ChlorideCull/outbox?page=true you'll find that no follower only posts are listed

@schratze big agree with this, but also laughing at the idea of posting to public timeline but not letting your followers see
