A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It's where the rich use public transportation.'

This box of 600+ specimen cards holds a complete snapshot of the last metal type foundries in Germany.
Produced 1958–1971, the Schriftenkartei (Typeface Index) represents the final effort to catalog all the country’s typefaces in production at the time. The cards are useful for researchers and designers as they share a common format and show complete glyph sets. Thanks to Michael Wörgotter, a set of these cards is now in our collection, and his high-res scans are online. https://letterformarchive.org/news/schriftenkartei-german-font-index/

So, you've encountered the idea of Maid Cafes, yes?
Where the staff are all women dressed as someone's idea of a maid, and they address the customers as "master"?
I've had a brilliant idea: Igor Cafes.
The staff are all made up as Igors, there's a faint smell of ozone, and the cuthtomers are all seated with their back to the counter and passageway, so that whenever they want thomething an Igor can thtep thilently in behind them and say "Yeth, Mathter?"

i don’t think we need to be concerned about an ai-based paperclip maximizer. We already built a paperclip maximizer and it’s like the most revered thing on the planet

Teletext made in new system
Since today, teletext has been produced in a new system. Users could notice this this morning by a number of imperfections. A bug with the display of diaeresis has already been fixed. The colored quick keys are also being adjusted, so that you can quickly go from the 101 to the weather and from the 601 to football.
The new system was necessary because the old one, Cyclone, dated from 1980 and could no longer be maintained. With the new system, Teletext can continue for many years to come, in the well-known ‘retro’ style.
For TV users, news headlines have become smaller. This way they look nicer in the app and the messages have one line more text.
news / domestic / abroad / sports
This sounds like the kind of thing that retro computer enthougiasts would have an absolute nerdgasm about!
I certainly do like how the netherlands still have a news service from the early 80’s still in operation today, with no ads and a ton of random useful information.
They have news, road disruptions, sport, weather, finances, airplane departure times, water levels, boat disruptions, sun and moon rise and fall times, train disruptions, world clock and more, all in a simple distraction-free system with a genuine retro look! Cudos, guys.
How come it's always "What if abortion kills the next Einstein" and never "What if bombing people kills the next Einstein"
Retrocomputing is a multiverse.
It's a multitude of parallel universes in which every classic computer and software achieved success, and gained the ecosystem and love it always deserved.
Palestinian children do not deserve to die because Hamas exists.
Israeli children do not deserve to die because of right-wing politicians in the government.
Collective punishment is a violation of the Geneva Conventions.
Do not fall into the trap of dehumanising people. "But terrorists" has been the source of human rights violations for decades now. Don't be a sucker.
Murdering someone else's child will not bring the victims back.
13yo me: "You're saying in 2023 you have CPUs that are like six CPUs in one, run at multi-GHz speeds, and have GBs of RAM. Wow, your stuff must be SO FAST all the time!"
today me: "it..actually feels slower sometimes."
13yo me: "well you must be on like Windows 2020 or some shit, does it crash less?"
today me: "Well, yeah, but it now reboots whenever it wants and it's full of ads. Also it's Windows 11. Not like 2011. Just...11."
13yo me: "well shit."

13yo me: "...wait are we a girl?"
