av1 film grain synthesis is really funny. the editors of a work want there to be some artefact on the final piece so they leave it in, but it's random and hard to compress.
therefore the encoder strips it out then adds metadata asking the decoder to generate something that looks similar. it's not going to be the same, but no one will notice.

This is an advertisement. This is intended to make their models seem so powerful as to be a scary threat in order to get more VC funding to pour in. No company would openly releases a security incident unless they are required to do so.
Facebook did the same thing years ago when they did a press release talking about how they had to do an emergency shutdown of their AI models because they had “developed their own language to communicate that the human observers didn’t understand” and it was portrayed as some incredibly frightening entity that might “escape the lab”. It was bullshit: the two LLMs were just babbling nonsensically at each other.

I don't get why people are so passionate about shipping. Every time I open the internet it's "pro-ship this", "anti-ship that", "problematic shipping", "shipping discourse". Bruh. They're boats. Huge fuckin' boats. They move containers around. Surely we can all agree that rail should handle more inland freight and that bunker fuel is shit we shouldn't be burning?
