Using Verizon customer service makes me genuinely want to employ an LLM chatbot to communicate with those representatives given their inability to not sell something to you every five seconds as you try to resolve a problem.

I’m considering switching to another mobile network operator (likely prepaid since I don’t have enough folks to justify subscribing to one of the big 3 and saving on those) that can offer unlimited data so I can use remote play away from home. But It seems really daunting of a task to find a carrier that does not have deprioritize at a low cap without paying more than 50$

@josh Verizon wireless. I was subscribed to them for a while and anytime I need to contact support was frustrating because they would just offer their various things that I already knew about (since I did look through their whole directory of add-ons they provide)

@josh I actually asked in the Verizon store if they offered FiOS in my area (since it would’ve been kind of nice to bundle both my home and Internet connection), and they didn’t. But they kept bugging me to subscribe to their 5G home internet. Regardless of me saying that I would not because I don’t want an internet connection that uses CG-NAT. They got pretty snippy with me.

My current mobile network operator provides a by the gig plan that I use for 5 GB per month and can go up to almost a whole terabyte. Perhaps I should just accept that unlimited data might be a scam and pick something reasonable idk

It’d be nice if cloud gaming services let you actually suspend games like you could on a local device. And then also utilize that to handoff the game to another device.

@soulfire american cell plans are a scam
on this side of the pond unlimited actually means unlimited. you get an unlimited plan for 30€ and it’ll be 4G/5G throttled to like 50Mbps with no limits.
meanwhile limited plans are of the american limited kind where you get for example 50GB of data and then unlimited data at 64kbps

@soulfire lmao there's one of those chat centers down the street from where I live, worked there in the sales role for like 3 months in 2010 or 2011.
The direct managers would get pushy for folks to do exactly what you're complaining about, and also like.. God it was SO condescending. I worked there later for longer in an account support role and it was a completely different picture; we were solely graded on what customers answered on surveys there for whether we helped or didn't and how well we did. Sales was graded on more numbers and had to do more chats simultaneously.
So uh... Annoying as it is to deal with, don't be shitty to the people who already have to suffer through all their direct managers singing sales lyrics to "Just Can't Wait To Be King" as the karaoke version blasts through some shitty boombox carried around the room.

- you have yo pay for 3, 6, or 12 months of service in advance -- no month-to-month, and it's for the plan you choose
- hotspot only goes up to 20GB
- their unlimited options still can be throttled after like 50-60GB?
(diff between Unlimited and Unnecessary is how much hotspot is included, the 20GB (my plan) and smaller are "your data and hotspot are a shared pool you can use however you want")
For what it's worth the 20GB plan I'm on I pay yearly for $300 total comes out to $25/mo. I don't normally use much of it, but it's nice having it for times I do tether while riding in the car or at a hotel with shit WiFi, or just to not care at all about how many videos I watch while out and about.

But then travel to like, Atlanta and in busier parts it's instaslow.

@foxyloon @soulfire They'll also send emails if you don't use much of your plan throughout to nudge you to a cheaper plan. On the 20 GB but never use more than 2-3 total between hotspot and normal use? They'll outright recommend that 5GB plan in the email.
It's one of those moves that works multi-fold: it gets people like you and I to mention it directly to other people, it's genuinely valuable to the subscriber themselves, and they don't miss out too much in terms of money themselves. Basically a cheap way to earn good will that's fairly genuine.
Though my sister on their family one got suggested to upgrade once -- I think they go over from time to time but it's never enough to be an issue overall, so they just ignored it.

@KayOhtie Yeah, I’ve used mint mobile before, and the rest of my family currently does as well.
I use US Mobile however. Mainly because their shared data plans pretty closely match up in terms of price to Mint without the bulk commitment (20$ for 10GB, with 15$ extra per 10 GB), and any additional data purchased carries over (up to a single billing cycle). They also provide the choice of using any of the 3 major networks as well.
I’m trying to find the FCC broadband facts label for the specific plan I use to compare, but I only see the ones for my operators unlimited plans and basic plan so I’m not really sure. But I imagine it’s roughly the same as their light plan since it starts on the same pricing but 5$ extra for 5 GB instead.
